Dhouti

Dhouti is a yogic technique for cleansing the upper intestinal tract up to the stomach. There are following type of dhouti:

Jala Dhouti or Vaman Dhouti [kunjal]

It is a yogic technique for cleansing the stomach with water. It is effective when performed in the morning on an empty stomach.

Benefits of Jal Dhauti

  • Dhauti cleans respiratory and the entire digestive system.
  • Dhauti eliminate excess bile, stomach acids, mucus and toxins from stomach and restore the body to its naturally balanced state.
  • It helps to relieve chronic cold, asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory problems.
  • It helps to relieve constipation, indigestion, acidity, heartburn, dyspepsia, biliary disorders and disorders of the stomach.
  • Heat pure drinking water till it achieves the body temperature.
  • Put a pinch of salt in it.
  • Initially, the proportion of salt can be kept a little high.
  • Sit on the heels and start drinking saline water.
  • After intake of 1.5 to 2 liters of water, there will be a nauseating feeling.
  • Keep on drinking, until intense feeling to vomit.
  • Stand with feet wide apart and bend forward and start vomiting.
  • To aggravates the feeling to vomit, tickle the back of the throat with the help of fingers.
  • The water in the stomach will come out in gushes.
  • Try to vomit, until entire quantity of water comes out and the nausea.
  • Wash the mouth and relax.
  • Entire process of vaman dhouti may need about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Gulp rather than sip the water.
  • Drink enough water for the technique to work.
  • Keep body relaxed all times.
  • After process if one feel tired, then perform shavasan for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Any food and water should be consumed after 1.5 to 2 hours of the process.
  • It should not be performed daily, perform it as per the need under proper guidance only.

Vastra Dhouti

Vastra dhouti is similar to vaman dhauti but instead of water muslin cloth is uses. It should be performed on an empty stomach early in the morning.

Benefits of Vastra Dhouti

  • Dhauti cleans respiratory and the entire digestive system.
  • Dhauti eliminate excess bile, stomach acids, mucus and toxins from stomach and restore the body to its naturally balanced state.
  • It helps to relieve chronic cold, asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory problems.
  • It helps to relieve constipation, indigestion, acidity, heartburn, dyspepsia, biliary disorders and disorders of the stomach.
  • Take a strip of muslin cloth about 20 feet long and 3 inches wide. Soak it with water or milk, so that it become soft.
  • Slowly inserting the cloth into throat and start swallowing it from one end, keep another end outside.
  • Initially try swallowing about 1 foot of the cloth and gradually increase it till almost all the cloth.
  • Keep the cloth in throat for a few seconds, increae the period every day graduly.
  • If cloth sticks in throat, sip some warm water.
  • Keep the cloth inside from few minutes to for maximum of 20 minutes, after that it may end up in the small intestine by the regular movements in the stomach.
  • Now pull the cloth out of the mouth very slowly.
  • The cloth will be wet with lot of mucus and other sticky substance from the inner lining of the intestinal tract.
  • Wash and sterilize the cloth to reuse it next time.
  • Cloth should be washed and disinfected prior to use.
  • During swallowing, some may feel nausea, so practitioner should be master in jala dhouti
  • Avoid using cloths made from synthetic materials.
  • Do not swallow the cloth completely.
  • In the beginning take proper guidance.

Danda Dhouti

Danda is the sanskrit word for stick. In danda dhauti, soft stick is use to clean upper intestinal tract up to the stomach. This stick is usually the stem of a banana or lotus. Nowadays people use rubber catheter for danda dhouti.

  • Dhauti eliminate excess bile, stomach acids, mucus and toxins from stomach and restore the body to its naturally balanced state.
  • It helps to relieve chronic cold, asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory problems.
  • It helps to relieve constipation, indigestion, acidity, heartburn, dyspepsia, biliary disorders and disorders of the stomach
  • Drink saline water as in vamana dhouti about 1 liter.
  • Gently insert rubber catheter (danda) about 1 cm in diameter and a meter long into throat and swallow it.
  • Continue swallowing till the end of the tube reaches the stomach.
  • When rubber catheter reaches the stomach, then slowly bend forward. All the water will come out by siphon action.
  • Now slowly remove the tube.
  • Danda dhouti should be performed early in the morning on an empty stomach.
  • Practitioner should be master in jala dhouti.

Varisara Dhauti

Varisara dhauti is a yogic technique for cleansing the complete elementary canal (from the mouth to the anus). It is also known as shankha prakshalana. Sanskrit word shank means shell. Shells have a lot of curves as same way in intestines. In Varisara dhauti same technique is used as used for cleaning the shell.

Benefits of Danda Dhouti

  • It clean complete elementary canal (from the mouth to the anus).
  • Varisara dhauti improve respiratory, digestive and circulatory system.
  • It is benifitial for indigestion, gas, acidity, constipation, Diabetes and other digestion problem.
  • It reduces Excessive mucus and thus help to relieve asthma, chronic colds and sinusitis.
  • It helps to cure diabetes mellitus, hypoglycemia, obesity, high blood cholesterol, high lipid levels, arthritis and chronic inflammatory diseases.
  • It strengthens the immune system.
  • It purifies the blood and help to reduce skin problems such as pimples, boils and eczema.
  • Best time for Varisara dhauti is early morning, empty stomach, in fresh air.
  • On previous day one should take light food only like Khichdi with rock salt and ghee quite early in the evening.
  • Preparation of saline water – Boil about 3-5 liter of water with rock sault (5 gr rock salt in 1 liter water)
  • Drink two glasses of saline water.
  • Perform some warm up exercises and later perform Tadasana, Tiryaka Tadasana, Kati Chakrasana, Tiryaka Bhujangasana and Udarakarshanasana. Do not waste much time in between asana.
  • After exercise go to the toilet and empty stomach. This is the one round.
  • Gradually increase the water intake, perform same asana repeatedly.
  • When one feel to go toilet, do not ignore. One may need to go toilet about 7-8 times.
  • At first solid stool then mixture of stool and water will be evacuated. As the practice progresses more water and less solid stool will be excreted. Eventually cloudy yellow water and, finally, almost clear water will be evacuated.
  • Stop process when clear water is evacuated. Passing clear water is an indication that your stomach and digestive tract have been cleanse
  • After Varisara dhauti perform Jal Neti processes and relax mind and body. Perform shavasana.
  • On first day eat only khichadi with ghee and take warm water as per need.
  • For at least one week take low calorie diet.
  • avoid spicy, acidic, milk product, fruits, non-vegetarian foods, Cigarettes, tea, coffee.
  • Procedure should be done 4-6 times in a year with proper guidance only.

Agnisar Kriya

Agnisar Kriya is a yoga technique to stimulate the digestive system to work at its optimum level. It is preliminary practice for Nauli.

Benefits of Agnisar Kriya

  • It improves digestive system, help to relive from several gastro-intestinal complaints such as excessive gas, hyper-acidity, indigestion.
  • It stimulates the immune system and detoxification of body.
  • It develops control over the sluggish abdominal muscles and diaphragm and thus improve respiration.
  • It increases the heat in the body.
  • While standing bend waist and knee slightly forward, rest hands on knees. The back and arms should be straight and the head should be upright.
  • Now, inhale deeply through the nose and exhale fully through the mouth. holding breath in this position, relax abdominal muscles, draw the navel inwards and upwards back to the spine and begin to snap the abdomen backwards and forwards 10-15 times holding the breath.
  • Now take a slow breath. This is one round.
  • In beginning complete 3 rounds and increase round as per capacity.
  • Beginners may lose control of the abdominal muscles and are unable to coordinate the flapping movement.
  • Process should be done at early morning in empty stomach.
