Menopause refers to the time when women’s menstrual period stop permanently, because of a decrease in hormone production from ovaries, and thus no longer able to bear a child. Usually, the transition takes several years. This phase is called the premenopausal phase, typically it occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55.
In exceptional cases, women, may become menopausal in their 30s, or even younger. This is known as a premature menopause or premature ovarian insufficiency.
